A Ship to cross the Sea of Suffering

"Real happiness is found in the struggles we undergo to realise our goals, in our efforts to move forward." Daisaku Ikeda

I haven’t always, But…

I haven’t always:

I haven’t always been a Buddhist

I haven’t always felt like a good person

I haven’t always followed the rules

I haven’t always been the best role model

But I have always had a heart

I haven’t always told the truth

I haven’t always said I love you

I haven’t always said nice things

I haven’t always been right

But I’ve always wanted to help

I haven’t always got good grades

I haven’t always done my chores

I haven’t always called

I haven’t always remembered your birthday

But I’ve always wanted to impress you

I haven’t got a degree

I haven’t got a school certificate

I haven’t got savings or inheritance

I haven’t got anything but words on paper

But I’ve always wanted to become someone great!

Instead I’ve got Love; Wisdom, courage, and compassion.

I have nam-myoho-renge-kyo, I have books, music, a voice, a vision, eyes, a body – this life.

I have a lover, a mother, a father and extended family.

I have a house, a pet, a car, a T.V, food in the fridge, carpet, beds…. warmth.

I have me

In all that I am not, just as I am
